| Case Analysis 2
Scenario 2
Company Y decided to open an office in
India. They had done all their analysis,
determined the location and opened the office.
They decided to recruit the team in India
using the same strategy that had worked
for them locally in the US. They registered
with the online job sites in India and decided
to place a Job adds in the local newspaper
and on the job sites. They scheduled face
to face interviews before finalizing candidates.
What resulted?
The face to face interview was rushed.
Many candidates could not be scheduled because
they did not have time to schedule leave
with their company or could not take time
off from their projects.
The company was not able to recruit suitable
talent and retain the talent that they had
recruited. The US company was spending more
time managing the changes and they did not
get the returns they were expecting.
What went wrong?
- They had assumed that the recruiting
process would be similar to the US process.
- The economic growth climate in India
is very strong. Candidates are expecting
higher salaries for certain skill year
on year basis. This was not considered
in their analysis and so during the review
they lost employees and were not able
to fill positions fast enough.
- The responses they received by only
job postings were poor. The local team
did not have a good selection to choose
from, and weak candidates were lined up
for interview.
- The job postings only targeted local
candidates, limiting the options the company
had.
- Local online job sites have limited
candidate postings and many companies
are using the sites, so competition for
the candidates was high.
What approach could have helped.
- Widened the search to other areas.
Many candidates can relocate for the right
opportunity.
- Partnered with a company specializing
in recruiting. Recruiting companies can
keep a continuous eye on the local environment
and suitable candidates so new hires and
replacements can be found faster. Many
people do not post their resumes online
and recruiting companies have access to
passive candidates.
- Proactively search for candidates,
rather then in a reactive mode.
