| Case Analysis 3
Scenario 3
Company Z had preformed a full analysis
of where in India they wanted to open up
operation. They chose a location which had
ample human resources for their type of
business. They hired a team and successfully
grew the team to 60 people in six months.
Their second stage of expansion was to grow
the team to 200+ people over the next eighteen
to twenty-four months. The 2nd stage of
growth was stumbled because the Managers
whose vision for the expansion into India
decided to take another opportunity.
What Resulted?
With the departure of a critical person
the team lost focus. The person that took
over the project did not share the same
passion for the expansion into India, causing
a lot of uncertainty for the team in India
and in the US.
The team that had been setup in India started
looking for other opportunities and some
people left.
The local US team found projects getting
delayed as counterparts in India left projects
and additional resources were not added
as expected. This caused frustration.
What could the company have done?
It is impossible
to plan for every risk however some action
should have been taken :
- Fast communication to all the team.
Confidence and moral is critical. Until
the company had made any decision to change
focus the team should have continued to
communicate the existing plan.
- Utilized partners to fill positions
that had become vacant and fill critical
positions for projects.
- Reevaluated its commitment to expansion
into India. This would involve using its
current team members and external consultants.
